Eye Emergencies FAQs
I just lost my vision in one eye; what should I do?
Call your eye doctor right away.
I got chemicals in my eye. What should I do?
If chemicals are spilled or splashed into your eye, rinse thoroughly with water for about 30 minutes. Then call your eye doctor.
I see spots floating in my vision. Should I be worried?
Spots or floaters are usually not something to worry about but can signify a retinal detachment. Call your eye doctor immediately if you suddenly get many new floaters, see flashes of light, or have a shadow or curtain in your vision.
My eye hurts. What should I do?
Sudden, brief eye pain is not usually cause for concern. You should call your eye doctor if you experience frequent or constant pain.
I got something stuck in my eye. What should I do?
If you feel something is in your eye, it is best to see your eye doctor than the ER. If you think it could be metal in your eye, it is best to be seen right away before the metal starts to rust in the eye.
